Description:
Throughout Vienna, the former capital of the Habsburg Empire, there was a natural mixture of German and Yiddish (a broken High German language with Hebrew and Slavic words) on a daily basis. However, the Nazi policy of World War II wiped these out, and Yiddish completely disappeared from the city's bustle. This album is a collection of songs in "Yiddish" by Jewish composers. The accompaniment is not only piano, but also violin, clarinet, saxophone, and other instruments, giving the songs a more intimate feel. Forgotten songs have been beautifully revived. Naxos Japan
