Description:

Schumann wrote many piano pieces and songs, but not many works for violin. Apart from chamber music, there are only three violin sonatas, the Concerto in D minor and the Fantasy, both of which are included in this album, and a concerto in A minor, an arrangement of a cello concerto. Most of the works were composed in the last years of Schumann's life, and all of them, including the "Fantasy" dedicated to Joachim, have an austere beauty typical of Schumann's later works. The Violin Concerto has the unique distinction of being performed in a recently released critical edition.The beautiful sound of Neudauer's emotionally rich tone, befitting Schumann, is a must-hear.
