Description:
The Tetzlaff siblings and pianist Lars Forkt. They have performed together numerous times, and the ONDINE label has released Brahms' Piano Trio and Beethoven's Triple Concerto, both of which have been well received for their intimate performances. This time they tackle Dvořák's two piano trios, the third of which was composed in 1883 and has an intense, dark atmosphere that reflects Dvořák's grief over the loss of his beloved mother the previous year, but also shows the profound influence of Brahms, whom he admired. The beautiful cello melody in the third movement is a particular highlight. The fourth movement features rhythms from Czech folk dances. The fourth movement, subtitled "Dumky" (plural of Dumka, an epic poem of Ukrainian origin), was written just before Dvořák left for New York. 6 movements in free form, it is a fascinating work with various folk music elements. The brother Tetzlaff's violin sings melancholy melodies in a flowing, flowing fashion, the sister Tanya's cello sustains the entire work with its deep tone, and the piano by Falkto brings out the full flavor of Dvořák's works to the utmost limit.
