Polwarth sheep were bred in the 1880s as a dual purpose breed that was hardier than Merinos, but retained the fine wool of Merinos. They are a cross of 1/4 Lincoln (a longwool sheep) and 3/4 Merino, which results in a fine wool with a longer staple length, increased luster and durability. Polwarth is well loved in the handspinning community, and it's a joy to bring a Polwarth specific yarn into our selection of hand dyed yarns.
Aubergine is a semisolid rich cool purple.
Each 100g (3.5 oz) skein of Polwarth DK contains 300 yards of a lovely 3 ply yarn. Knits up at 6 stitches to the inch (it can substitute for many sportweight yarns) with a US 4-6 (3.0 - 4.0 mm).
Care: Handwash cold. Lay flat to dry.
All efforts are made to accurately depict the colors of the hand dyed yarn. Colors will vary from dyelot to dyelot, so please purchase enough to complete your intended project in a single batch. Alternate skeins for best results.
