Pinpoint your pH & temperature with a single tool — a 2-in-1 Bluelab pH Pen. Bluelab is one of the industry's best-known and most trusted brands; all of their testing equipment delivers a level of reliability and accuracy that's second-to-none.
The Bluelab pH Pen is a handheld pH pen that's easy to use, producing clear, accurate readings on an easy-to-read, backlit LCD screen.
By gathering the most accurate readings possible, you can get pH right, optimising your nutrient solution. For most plants, the ideal pH range is 5.5 – 6.5. You’ll then maximise nutrient uptake, massively reducing the likelihood of encountering nutrient deficiencies.
Get your nutrient temperature right to fight root diseases, improve growth and boost nutrient uptake further.
A 12 month warranty and batteries are included! It’s just what you need at a low, low cost.

When using mineral-based nutrients and additives, the nutrients are provided to plants in their ionic form, and the pH level of the solution directly affects the availability of these ions. At the right pH level, nutritional ions are in forms that plants can readily uptake. Deviating from the optimal pH can result in nutrient deficiencies or imbalances, as certain ions become less available for absorption.
Low pH can lead to cation accumulation near the root surface, locking out particular nutrients, while high pH (alkalinity) can reduce overall cation uptake. Both situations are sub-optimal and potentially crop-threatening.
Organic growers have an easier time with pH levels, as organic soils tend to have a higher buffering capacity. Microbes in the substrate also help to regulate pH levels, breaking down materials slowly and preventing sudden changes in pH. Nevertheless, you should aim to pH adjust your nutrient solution to around 6.5 before giving it your plants.
