Otto Klemperer, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra.
Description:
Richard Itter (1928-2014), founder of the Lyrita Recorded Edition label, actively recorded British music and contributed to the discovery of unknown composers. This is the fourth in a series of CDs from his valuable collection of BBC broadcasts, which he has been air-checking since 1952 using the most advanced professional equipment available at the time. This time, only the Beethoven recordings are from private collectors. This is Klemperer's second collection, and the studio live Mozart and Brahms with the BBC Symphony Orchestra are the first releases, while the Beethoven was released on a minor label in the past, but it is almost the first release. The Beethoven is also almost a first, although there is evidence of a minor label release of the Beethoven in the past. The "German Requiem," also five minutes earlier than the 1961 studio recording, features Hans Willebrink, a baritone then active at the Bavarian State Opera, who was only 22 years old, and German lyric soprano, known as Karl Böhm's favorite, Elfriede Tretzel, a German lyric soprano known to be a favorite of Karl Böhm. The sound quality remains in very good condition for an aircheck from the 50s, and the careful remastering allows us to enjoy Klemperer's powerful performance, still energetic at over 70 years of age.
