The NeckTech Sport is one of our most popular classic prong-style training collars. Its linked prongs distribute pressure evenly around the neck, and the swiveling assembly chain adds flexibility between collar and leash while reducing leash twist - a dependable choice for professional training.
The assembly chain works martingale-style for balanced communication, and the swivel keeps the leash from twisting during active work. Fully adjustable by adding or removing links.
How should it fit and where does it sit?
A prong collar should sit high on the neck, just behind the ears, snug enough that it can't slide down to the wider lower neck where it loses effect. Add or remove links for that fit, and introduce it under professional guidance.
How do I size it - by the listed length?
Treat the listed length as a maximum, not the fit. You dial in the fit by adding or removing prong links so it sits snug high on the neck - better to start a little long and remove links than to run out of room.
Why the assembly chain and swivel?
The assembly chain works martingale-style for balanced communication, and the swivel keeps the leash from twisting and the collar from binding during fast, active work.
Stainless, Curogan, or black steel - which finish should I choose?
This version is stainless steel: rust-proof, keeps its shine, and a dependable all-round choice. We also offer nickel-free Curogan for nickel-sensitive dogs and a matte black finish for low-profile work.
Do thinner or thicker prongs give more correction?
Counterintuitively, thinner prongs concentrate pressure on a smaller area and feel sharper, while thicker prongs spread it and feel milder. Match the gauge to the dog: our range runs from the fine 1.5 mm MICRO-PLUS for smaller or sensitive dogs up to the 3.0 mm ULTRA-PLUS for powerful, thick-coated breeds.
Is a prong collar humane, and are the tips sharp?
The prong tips are smooth and rounded, not pointed - they apply even, distributed pressure around the neck rather than poking. Fitted correctly and paired with proper training it is a clear communication tool, not a punishment device; introduce it under professional guidance.
Can my dog wear it all day or on a tie-out?
No - a prong collar is a training tool for active, supervised sessions and should come off afterward. Never use it for tie-out or unsupervised wear; use a flat collar or harness for everyday and downtime.
Should I use a backup connection?
Many handlers clip a short backup link from the prong to a flat collar or harness, so that if a link or buckle ever opens under a hard hit the dog stays connected - inexpensive insurance against an escape.
