Rosenmuller, Johann (1619-1684)
Description:
Baroque composer Rosenmüller will celebrate his "400th birthday" in 2019. Born in Germany, he was an organist at St. Nikolai's Church, but was imprisoned in 1655 on charges of homosexuality, which was forbidden at the time. He lost all his positions and fled to Venice, but fortunately, he gained fame in Italy and eventually returned to Germany after restoring his honor, a man who had a tumultuous life. His works, which combined the counterpoint he had learned in Germany with the expressiveness he had cultivated in Italy, were of a wonderfully innovative style at the time, and were highly popular. Ensemble 1684, led by Meyer, is releasing an album including four world premieres as part of the "400th anniversary of his birth. Naxos Japan
