What makes this one SO SPECIAL?
🔍 LOOK CLOSER! The Flat Iron Building structure is NOT an illustration; rather, it's a cutout photo sourced from a FLYER in my mailbox.
👀 Not only is this a true transformation of scrap into timeless class, this collage serves as a representation of the building's history, with each fragment holding its own distinct significance.
🧱 In the 18th century, the building was built for the Gooderham family to recognize their success. Gooderham’s family first joined Worts’s family to build a wind-powered flour-mill and started a milling business. At the time, the windmill stood in the Distillery District, overseen by the office in the flat iron building — hence, placed parallel to each other in the collage.
🪴 Gooderham’s rapid rise was partly the result of the decision to spurn the family’s distilling business. Their expansion included a distillery and ventures into industries like railroads, insurance, and finance, and are represented by the “branching” leaves.
⚓️ Additionally, the family's enthusiasm for yachting is also depicted by a yacht on the left, giving it a personal touch.
